Grade 1, the first class of our new Lower Basic School, started in September 2012. Our blog has many pictures of the Lower Basic building as it grew and developed until we now have classrooms for all six years of Lower Basic education. As our present children move up through the school we will be adding a new Grade every year, finishing with Grade 6. After completing Grade 6 the children will move on to an Upper Basic school.

Grade 1 is taught by Beola Williams, who has an ECD teaching certificate. He taught at London Corner Nursery School before coming to Sunrise

Our Grade 2 teacher is Fatoumata Darboe. She previously taught at Victory Gospel Primary, London Corner Nursery and Seino Lower Basic School. She has gained her Primary Teaching Certificate at Gambia College in2018.

Grade 3 is taught by Yassin Jasseh, an ex-skills student at the centre, who joined the nursery staff as a classroom assistant in 2015. She has since gained her Primary Teaching Certificate at Gambia College in2019.

Our Grade 4 teacher is Sulayman Jobe, an ex-skills student at our centre, who joined the Lower Basic staff as a classroom assistant in 2014, and has since gained his Primary Teaching Certificate at Gambia College in 2019.

Grade 5 is taught by Bakary Saidy, who has his Primary Teaching Certificate from Gambia College. After teaching at Sunrise in the morning, he teaches Grade 6 in the afternoon shift at Bakoteh Proper Lower Basic school.

All our staff will be given the opportunity for further training, where necessary. 

Salaries for all staff will be in line with Gambian government pay scales.
